ADD ACCESSORIES TO YOUR ORDER
Keep your Pro Mag Gold working the way it did out of the box. Ear seals compress with use and headbands can wear, but both are replaceable and not a reason to buy a new pair of electronic earmuffs.
- The Maintenance Kit for Rectangular Cups fits the Pro, Mag, and Slim models and refreshes the seal your ear muff depends on.
- The Large Carry Bag is sized for the large Mag cup, which does not fit most standard muff pouches.
- The Belt Clip keeps your hearing protection ear muffs on you between stages instead of hanging off a bench.
Browse the full accessories selection, or call our team if you are not sure which seal your model takes.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF THE PRO MAG GOLD
DLSC Technology and Sound Control
The Pro Mag Gold has a 30 NRR and uses Pro Ears’ proprietary Dynamic Level Sound Compression (DLSC) technology to compress loud impulse noises. Sounds above the set threshold are compressed rather than switched off, so quieter sounds like range commands, footsteps, and conversation stay audible while you shoot. The circuit reacts with a 1.5 millisecond attack time.
A Large Cup Designed for Extreme Noise
The Pro Mag Gold uses a large ear cup designed for extreme noise environments, and Pro Ears lists it among its best firearms shooting protection options for covered or indoor shooting ranges. It is rated for use with large and small caliber handguns and pistols, and it is also suited for outdoor range use and hunting. At NRR 30, it is tied for the highest NRR rating in the Pro Ears over-the-ear lineup.
Independent Volume Control for Each Ear
Dual circuit boards drive each earmuff separately, so you can set sound amplification differently on each side based on your preference. That combination of dual controls and amplification is what helps users pick up speech and range commands while the electronics handle the loud noise. The independent volume controls allow users to adjust amplification separately for each ear.
Comfort Through a Full Day on the Line
ProForm leather ear seals and an adjustable, padded headband create an all-day comfortable fit. Which is the difference between hearing protection you wear and hearing protection that ends up around your neck. The unit weighs 13.5 ounces. When wearing safety glasses or other eye protection, check that the temple bars do not create a gap beneath the ear seals.
Audio Input, Long Runtime, and a Five-Year Warranty
Battery life runs 250 hours, and automatic shut off after four hours of inactivity helps preserve batteries between range trips. Built in 3.5mm jacks let you connect a phone or MP3 player, a feature the Gold II 30 does not offer. Batteries are included, the unit ships in Certified Frustration Free Packaging, and every unit is made in the USA and backed by a five-year warranty.
FAQS
The Pro Mag Gold carries a Noise Reduction Rating of 30, which is tied for the highest NRR rating in the Pro Ears over-the-ear lineup. NRR is a laboratory rating rather than a guaranteed reduction on every shot, so real-world performance depends on fit and seal. Some shooters pair electronic earmuffs with foam earplugs for additional protection during firearm use.
Both carry NRR 30, both use DLSC, both come with a five-year warranty, and both are made in the USA. The Gold II 30 uses gel ear pads and runs on four AAA batteries with roughly 200 hours of runtime. The Pro Mag Gold uses Pro Form leather ear seals, includes batteries, runs 250 hours, and adds 3.5mm audio inputs. Both models receive Pro Ears’ “Best” rating for pistols and indoor use, so choose between them based on ear seal material, battery type, runtime, included batteries, weight, and audio inputs.
Cup size can affect profile and the amount of sound dampening material a muff carries, though it does not determine NRR by itself. Slim passive earmuffs and lightweight foldable hearing protection are convenient to stash in a truck console. Our Pro Slim Gold is worth a look if you want Gold Series electronics in a lower profile.
Yes. DLSC compresses sounds above its set threshold while quieter speech and ambient sounds remain audible, so you are not sealed off the way you would be with passive noise-reduction headphones. Pro Ears lists the Pro Mag Gold as ideal for range masters and NRA shooting instructors, along with law enforcement and other users who have to communicate in a loud environment.
A properly fitted foam earplug and electronic earmuffs can be worn together for additional protection. Many shooters choose to pair the two during firearm use. Electronic hearing protection can help preserve access to range commands while the foam earplug adds another layer of noise reduction. If you want the electronics inside the ear canal instead, look at our in ear hearing protection and custom earplugs for in-ear protection options.
Lawn equipment, construction tools, auto racing, and shop machinery can also produce loud noise that contributes to hearing loss over time. A lawn mower, a chainsaw, and a shop floor all belong in that category, which is why plenty of customers buy the Pro Mag Gold as electronic shooting ear protection and end up wearing it for yard work and shop work as well. Pair it with eye protection any time you are around either one.

Had my golds for years. Awesome protection for me. Finally needed some attention.
Customer service is second to none.

Pro Mag Gold – I shot in a pistol competition last Sunday at Hollywood Rifle & Pistol Club, Florida.
First time using my new Pro Mag Gold earmuffs. Although I came 6th out of 15 competitors, the earmuffs were very comfortable and I did not take them off for the entire 2.5 hours competition.
Although they are really large, which is what I wanted, due to wearing a hearing aid in one ear, the muffs completely covered my ear and no feedback from the hearing aid.
My feedback: this is an excellent product and very comfortable to wear for extended periods on the range.
Only one small complain, the sound is not amplified enough. I did change to the high setting, but due to being deaf in both ears, it was not loud enough. This is personal and most folks with normal hearing will not have any issues. I was lucky the range master was loud and I was near one of the range loudspeakers!!
But overall, excellent made in USA 🇺🇸 product……..five star ⭐️ rating

Very Comfortable

Purchased for my husband. He is very happy with these ear protectors. Says they are very comforable.

I’ve had my Pro Ears Gold for a few years and they have seen little use as normally use another pair of elec muffs. I think their audio quality is better than others, no hissing and very clear and are by far more comfortable. They are quite large and noticeably stick out the side of your head more than others but they also provide more noise reduction. The major reason I primarily use another brand is that they are more rugged than these. I’m not hard on my equipment but the Pro Ears finally broke while putting them on at the range. It is a common issue that the headband breaks. Inexcusable for a product that costs this much to fail over something like this. This issue has been occurring for years but yet they fail to correct and redesign which is why I prefer my wire headband electronic muffs. I really like the comfort and audio but for durability I give then a 2. However, They’ll gladly sell me a replacement band with the same defective design / material.
Update: I spoke to customer service, great service btw, they are sending me a replacement headband gratis. The CSR also stated that they have worked with the manufacturer to use a plastic that is not prone to breaking. Time will tell. I am updating my rating from 2 to 4 b/c of this.

The Pro Ears Gold model is perhaps the best hearing protection muff I have ever used. The technology allows you hear everyone speak clearly, including the range instructors, while compressing out the gun shots. The company stand behind them unconditionally too. They are very comfortable as well, and I love all the bells and whistles, like auto shut off and low battery indicator. Perhaps the only negative is that they d not come with gel ears seals like to Gold II’s

These work very well. I have had them for….
These work very well. I have had them for a few months now and have no complaints. They fit well, do not hurt my ears (although I only wear them for about 20-30 minutes at a time). I have only used them with a pistol, so I cannot comment on how well they work with a rifle or shotgun.

Best Ears Ever
Color: Green
Amazing. You can practically hear a pin drop while stifling range noise. Women’s voices come through perfectly. Individual ear adjustment is great because each ear may benefit from individualized “tuning” of its muff. They’re really bulky, and I ultimately also purchased the Pro Ears Gold at 28 DB in a slimmer profile as well for when I want a lighter weight rig.

-33db is AMAZING
Color was not my first choice, but the -33db was! I have been using Peltor Tac 7s for decades. These are even better.
The negatives are size and weight. However, if you want real hearing protection, these are excellent.
Oh, the other negative is the cost. These are expensive, but compared to the cost of attempting to bring your hearing back up (can’t be done) they are well worth the price.

Awesome but could use higher noise
Color: Green
I didn’t know what I was missing at the indoor range! Sure is nice being able to hear and communicate. Now I’ve got to get my shooting buddies to buy a pair! Would be a 5 star but some of the louder rifles still bother me in doors. (noise) I’ve had no issues myself using a rifle with them on but they have bumped up against them at times. I purchased the highest noise suppression model they sell and I could still use more suppressions. Maybe 30 NRR isn’t enough indoors with rifles? I don’t want to wear ear plugs under the muffs because that defeats the purpose of them in the first place. Suggestions welcome?

Returned for Safety Reasons & Design
This earmuff is big, clunky and uncomfortable. The worst part is there is only a very thin foam sheet between your ear and the batteries. Bad design if you have sweat on your ears . . . Also you must buy medical grade “N” batteries when it is time to replace the batteries. These are not so easy to find. Returned due to these reasons & I do not recommend this product due to safety reasons & design. Howard Leight is a much better option.

Very Good Product
Color: Green
Very good hearing protection. Used during a four day shooting course at Front Sight and stood up well to the long hours, heat and dust. Only drawback was in the open desert, the Pro Ears Pro Mag Gold would pick up a lot of strong wind noise which made it difficult to hear the instructor. Muffs were comfortable and heat build up was not a problem. Muffs are larger and thicker than some of the newer models.

Protect Your Ears With The Best
I have tried various brands of ear protection and found that only the Pro Ears totally protect my ears and allow me to hear the Range Officer’s commands. Other electronic ear protectors do not allow one to hear voices while blocking harmful sounds of rounds being fired. I shoot IDPA and speed steel matches. (The white pair pictured are the set I purchased for my shooter wife.)
